Hadromys

Hadromys humei

Hadromys is a rodent species from the group of Altweltmäuse ( Murinae ). The genus includes two species.

General

These rodents reach a body length from 10 to 14 centimeters, a tail length of 11 to 14 inches and a weight of 40 to 80 grams. Their fur is dyed black gray at the top, the belly is whitish or orange-yellow. Your body is relatively stout, the teeth are large and strong.

The animals live in the northeastern India and in the Chinese province of Yunnan. As far as known, they inhabit forests up to 1300 meters above sea level. Their diet should consist mainly of green parts of plants, otherwise little is known about their way of life.

System

According to Wilson & Reeder ( 2005), the genus Hadromys within the Altweltmäuse occupies an isolated position and is therefore classified in a separate genus group of Hadromys group. Your relationships with other Altweltmäusen are unclear.

There are two types:

  • Hadromys humei is known only from a few locations in the Indian states of Assam and Manipur. The species is IUCN " high risk " ( endangered ).
  • Hadromys yunnanensis from Yunnan is a little-known type, it is also about the level of danger no certain information.
