Hagström

Hagström (also Hagstrom ) was a Swedish instrument manufacturer who is mainly known for his electric guitars. The company was founded by Albin Hagström, who dealt in musical instruments in Sweden, on 19 January 1925 in Älvdalen, Sweden. From 1925 consisted Hagström as a registered company. Initially, only accordions were produced, but as it became increasingly difficult in the 1950s to bring these instruments to the man guitars were developed with the support of well-known manufacturer Fender, Korg and Pearl and built in 1958. Next were still basses, and amplifiers and speakers manufactured.

Until 1982, Hagström instruments of brands Hagstrom, Kent, Goya and Futurama ago. In 1982, the production was stopped for economic considerations. Since 2005, some Hagström guitar models are re-issued under the same name in China and the United States.

Accordions

1932 began the production of accordions in Älvdalen. Soon after, the distribution of the instruments to Denmark, Finland and the United States was extended. After 20 years of production Hagström 1952 reached the high point of 15,000 manufactured accordions in the same year.

A Guitar

Hagström opened in the 1950s in order to achieve higher market shares: The production of acoustic guitars began. This change in strategy proved successful. Shortly afterwards, the market for accordions broke. Albin Hagström died in 1952, his son Karl Erik takes over the corporate management. Karl Erik Hagströms experience in the U.S. and its contacts with industry giants such as Fender and Korg helped him to continued success.

Electric Guitars

With the advent of rock 'n' roll era and the electric guitars were interesting for Hagström. The first electric guitar from 1958 already had several distinct characteristics: With the patented "H - Bar " a truss rod was installed with an H - shaped cross section in the guitar necks, which was very stable and at the same time easily. In addition, this technique allowed a very narrow neck construction. Other abnormalities were a " Speed-O -Matic " called fretboard, which consisted of acrylic. The Hagström guitars of the 1960s were also frequently coated with plastic from the Accordion. This faux pearl leaves the guitars in the light shine particularly spectacular.

Many Hagström guitar models were based on clearly prominent role models: The Hagstrom Swede largely corresponds to a Gibson Les Paul. The Hagström I, II and III look like the Fender Stratocaster and their construction.

Hagstrom guitars were and are played by several prominent musicians. The range of musical genres is remarkable. Known " endorsers " were back then. Among other Suzi Quatro, Neil Young, Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Abba, Frank Zappa, Elvis Presley, Fleetwood Mac, Rancid, Roxy Music and David Bowie Today, more and more bands playing on Hagström guitars, for example, Franz Ferdinand, Mando Diao, Stefan Stoppok, Foo Fighters or Rodrigo González of Physicians.

Basses

Several electric guitar models four -string bass versions were offered, for example, by the Swede, Corvette and Kent. It is particularly noteworthy that Hagström the first eight -string bass, the H8 produced. This model was played among others by Noel Redding ( Jimi Hendrix Experience).

Amps and Accessories

Hagstrom introduced until the 1980 years since even simple instrumentation amplifiers, speakers, keyboards, mixers, speakers and other music merchandise. In addition to the accordion, guitars and basses, however, could prove no further Hagström products on the market.

The end of production in 1982 and a new start in 2005

In 1982, the entire production was stopped. The reason for this was the outmoded models and a resulting sharp drop in demand. With the purchase of naming rights by an American company Hagström guitars are manufactured since 2005. The current electric guitars are modeled after the old models and located in the middle price segment. The models of the past are placed almost true to the original since 2005. It uses original drawings, machines and molds.

The production will take place today in China, after it has investors managed to make production profitable there. From the former Hagström factory in Sweden the Hagström Museum was born.
