The Hai He (Chinese海河, Pinyin Hǎi Hé, Sea River '), formerly Bai He (Chinese白河, Pinyin Bái Hé, W.-G. Pei Ho, White River ') called, is a Chinese river, and through Beijing Tianjin flows and empties into the Bohai Sea in the Yellow Sea.

From Tianjin from the Hai He is connected via the Grand Canal with the Huang He (Yellow River ) and the Yangtze River. The river system of the Hai He was fundamentally changed by this channel. Previously, the Wei He, the Ziya He, the Yongding He and Bai He each with its own estuary; since one however, the water of these rivers needed to guarantee the navigability of the Grand Canal, only one of the lower reaches of the river remained. This corresponds to the present course of the Hai He.

The Hai He created in and around Tianjin by the confluence of the southern Grand Canal, the Ziya He, Daqing He, the Yongding He and the northern Grand Canal. The southern Grand Canal is also charged in Linqing by Wei He. The northern channel corresponds Emperor from Beijing Tongzhou District the course of the Bai He ( Chaobai He). Since this was the only access of Beijing to the sea, the Hai He Europeans and Americans was also called Bai He.

The Hai He in a narrow sense is on the route from Tianjin to its mouth only 70 km long. But factoring added its longest tributary, resulting in a length of 1329 km. Its catchment area is approximately 319,000 km ².
