Hajime Sorayama

Hajime Sorayama (Japanese空 山 基, Sorayama Hajime, born February 22, 1947 in Imabari ) is a Japanese illustrator.

Even as a child drew Sorayama, with him especially interested in technical details. He studied at the School of Art and then worked in an advertising agency. In 1971 he started his own business. His style is characterized by a strong tendency to hyper- realism, with its specialty lighting effects are very realistic shown. His most famous work is the 1983 published in Genkōsha book "Sexy Robot", which revolves around the fetish shiny chrome robot women. He also painted a considerable number of women in highly realistic Pictured paint, in riding habit and as a dominatrix. Sorayama designed a whole series of title pages for magazines such as Heavy Metal.

Hajime Sorayama was born the son of a carpenter and a housewife. He made the final at the Imabari Kita High School. In 1965 he tried to study at the Catholic Shikoku Gakuin University Greek and English literature. In 1967 he gave up this course and moved to Tokyo Chuo Art School (中央 美术 学园, Chūō bijutsu gakuen ). This he left in 1969 at the age of 22 years. After that he was hired as an illustrator at an advertising agency and started in 1971 as a freelance painter independently.
