HÃ¥kan Loob

Håkan Loob ( born July 3, 1960 in Visby ) is a retired Swedish professional ice hockey player who played from 1983 to 1990 for the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League.

Career

At 20 he became Swedish Champion with Färjestad BK in the 1980/81 season. Already at the NHL Entry Draft in 1980, the Calgary Flames were in the ninth round as the 181st secured the rights to him. After outstanding performances with Färjestad in the season 1982/83 he moved to North America.

Many scouts had doubts about whether he would cope with the hardness in the NHL, but he punished those lies and was All- Rookie appointed to his first season in the NHL team. In the Ice Hockey World Championship 1987 in Vienna, he could again bring a world title for Sweden after 25 years.

In the season 1987/88 he managed to reach the 50 - goal mark in a regular season as the first Swedish player. With 106 points scorer was his most successful season. In the following season 1988/89 he won with the Flames to the Stanley Cup. He then returned to Sweden to Färjestad BK. His second world title he won at the World Ice Hockey Championship 1991 in Finland.

At the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, then he could still win with the Swedish National Team Olympic Gold. He is one of nine Swedish players, the Olympic champion, world champion and Stanley Cup winners were ( Triple Gold Club ).

In 1996 he ended his active career and took over other functions at Färjestad BK. He is currently working there as general manager. Since the season 2005/06 Elitserien Awarded the best scorer a season the Håkan Loob Trophy, which is named after the former attacker, since this with 42 goals in the 1982/83 season still the record for the most hits in a season of holds the Swedish Elite League.
