Hakea

Ball-shaped pincushion ( Hakea laurina )

Hakea is a genus within the family of the silver tree plants ( Proteaceae ). For some species, it also uses the common name pincushion. The about 150 species occur only in Australia and the largest biodiversity in the south- Western Australia.

Description

Hakea species grow as shrubs or small trees. The young branches can be covered with two-armed trichomes. This hair is resistant to some extent, but can also verkahlen quickly. The spirally arranged leaves on branch leaves are sessile, sometimes growing to the branch or with a pointed base that resembles a petiole. They are simple or compound, flat or round as leaves, sometimes along with grooved or serrated ganzrandigen margin. Both leaf pages look very similar, which is clear or unclear Venatur pronounced.

The inflorescences are in some species in a cone bracts, they form mostly axillary, rarely they also arise from the older wood or are terminally. There are umbel -like grapes or short spindles with a few flowers, rarely there are Vielblütige inflorescences in long spindles. The stalked flowers are usually paired, straight or curved in the bud. The sepals are separate until Bais or grow together and separated only at the top. Under the ovary is usually a semi-circular or curved -lobed gland that lacks only rarely. The stamp is smooth, the two-chamber ovary is stalked or almost sessile. The pollen presentation is erect, obliquely or sideways, circular or conical with narrow or wide edge.

The fruits are modified follicles, which may be lignified varying degrees, often beaked, sometimes horned, mostly delaying jumping up. The flap dividing the fruit on one or two sides to completely or partially. The seeds take the space around the door or are slightly laterally adjacent, are flattened on one side and have a distal or the seed -orbiting wing that clings between the flaps.

System

The genus Hakea was erected in 1797 by Heinrich Adolph Schrader and Johann Christoph Wendland in Sertum Hannoveranum, 27. Type species is Hakea glabra Schrad. & JCWendl. , Now a synonym of Hakea teretifolia ( Salisb. ) Britten subsp. teretifolia. The genus name honors Hakea Baron Christian Ludwig von Hake, who was the Hanoverian councilor a supporter of science.
