Halfmoon triggerfish

White border triggerfish ( Sufflamen chrysopterum )

The white border triggerfish ( Sufflamen chrysopterum ) lives in the Indo-Pacific from the coast of eastern and southern Africa to Japan, Lord Howe Island and Samoa in lagoons and outer reefs. In the Red Sea and the Gulf of Oman, it replaces the very similar blue throat triggerfish ( Sufflamen albicaudatus ). White edge - trigger fish are territorial loners and prefer shallow areas or terraced reefs with open sand, boulders and rocky surfaces that are covered very little of corals.

Juveniles are dark brown above and white below. The coloring of the adult animals is variable.

The 30 inches long expectant fish feed on various bottom-dwelling invertebrates.
