Halla (horse)

Halla ( born May 16, 1945, † May 19, 1979 ) was a Hessen mare who repeatedly won gold at the Olympic Games together with Hans Günter Winkler.

Life

Halla was born in the state domain Oberfeld by Gustav Vierling in Darmstadt. Her parents were Helene, a French horse loot unknown parentage, and the trotting stallion Colonel. With Hans Günter Winkler on Halla saddle in 1954 and 1955 World champion, 1956 Olympic champion and double Olympic champion in 1960 again with the team.

It was on 17 June 1956 to the myth, when she wore a severely injured Hans Günter Winkler in the decisive round flawlessly on the Olympic course of Stockholm. In order not to let the German team drop out of the standings, he went in spite of great pain with Halla in the second round. As a result of analgesic and anesthetic injections and suppositories - numerous sources mention morphine - Winkler was so dazed that he had to be saved from the start with strong coffee and shaking before falling asleep. Halla was first racehorse. Due to their great jumping ability, she was retrained to the obstacle race horse and eventually discovered by the German Olympic Committee for Equestrian. It should be used in the Military, but was considered very difficult and changed hands several times riders. Despite great talent she was unsuccessful. 1951 took over the coming show jumper Hans Günter Winkler the mare. With him Halla won three Olympic gold and a total of 125 jumping. Posthumously

In Warendorf, seat of the German Equestrian Federation (FN), was named a street after her and a life-size bronze sculpture in front of the DOKR set, which commemorates the " miracle mare ". In honor of the mare 's name Halla from the FN (Fédération Nationale Équestre ) has been banned, that is not a show horse must be registered in the name Halla.
