Hallandsås

The Hallandsås is up to 226 m high mountain range in the south of Sweden. The area of national interest forms a natural dividing line between the historical provinces (or " landscape ", Swedish landskap ) Scania ( Skåne) and Halland, making it the highest peak in Skåne. Because of its natural beauty, it serves partly as a recreation area. Two ski lifts open up a popular ski resort even in Danes.

The predominantly gneiss Horst is a 10 km wide and about 40 km long bolt on the west coast, which is an obstacle to the roads along the coast. The E6 motorway is so steep that some trucks must be towed even because they do not come up the slope at this point. To expand the capacity of the railway line and travel time shortening the construction of Hallandsåstunnels was started in 1992. By 1997 that occurred in the course of the construction environmental scandal of Hallandsås has gained notoriety. The tunnel is to be completed in 2015.
