Halo nevus

A Halonävus is a nevus, which is surrounded by a white, non-pigmented ring ( halo). (Synonym: nevus Sutton ) There is a specific subtype of benign, limited malformations of the skin ( nevi ), colloquially " birthmarks ".

Epidemiology

This type of Pigmentnävus occurs mainly in childhood to young adulthood and can sometimes be a sign of a vitiligo ("white spot disease " ) to be (about 20 % of vitiligo patients have halo nevi ).

Clinic

Initially formed around an existing nevus a reddish courtyard which is fades away with time and white. Later, back then also form the central nevus and lose its pigment. Years or months later, the entire lesion may take the normal skin color again.

It is believed that autoimmune processes involved in the destruction of melanin and melanocytes.

Forecast

Usually Halo nevi disappear after a certain period of self and are completely harmless.

Occasionally, however, can also be a malignant melanoma form a depigmented ring, which can lead to confusion between a Halonävus and this dangerous type of skin cancer.
