Halocline

A halocline ( alt -gr neck = salt and klínein = tend, .. Engl halocline ) is the transition zone between layers of water of different salinity. Fresh and salt water layers do not mix there, " float" the less saline layers on the saltier on. This creates the halocline or thermocline salinity.

The halocline is one of the possible phenomena, which are assigned to the chemocline.
