Taxonomy
This species was by Alfred Moquin - Tandon 1834 or 1840 under the name Salsola auricula Moq. first published. It was founded in 1981 by Victor Petrovich Botschantzev under the name Halothamnus auriculus ( Moq. ) Botsch. placed in the genus Halothamnus.
From Halothamnus auriculus there are two subspecies:
- Halothamnus auriculus ( Moq. ) Botsch. subsp. auriculus ( Syn: Salsola auricula Moq, Caroxylon AURICULUM ( Moq. ) Moq, Aellenia auricula ( Moq. ) Ulbr, Salsola moquiniana Jaub & Spach, Halothamnus moquinianus ( Jaub. & Spach ) Botsch. .. )
- Halothamnus auriculus subsp. acutifolius ( Moq. ) Kothe - Heinr. ( Syn: . Salsola auricula Moq Moq ß acutifolia, Salsola decurrens Jaub & Spach, Caroxylon acutifolium ( Moq. ) Moq nom illeg, Salsola acutifolia ( Moq. ) Bunge nom illeg, Halothamnus acutifolius (. .. .. .. .. Moq. ) Botsch. nom. illeg. )
Use
Halothamnus auriculus is considered good forage crop and is grown on reclaimed pastures. In their leaves, the plants accumulate boron.
