Halshany
Halschany or Golschany (White Russian Гальшаны / Halschany; Russian Гольшаны / Golschany; Halszany Polish, Lithuanian Alšėnai ) is a town in the northwestern Belarus, Hrodsenskaja Woblasz, near the border with Lithuania.
The town was first mentioned in 1280. Originally located in Poland, he came in 1795 with the third partition of Poland to Russia, 1920 and to Poland ( Second Polish Republic) and 1939 Byelorussian SSR within the Soviet Union. 1941-1944 the city was occupied by German troops.
The main attraction of the village are the ruins of the castle Halschany. This was built as the seat of the Polish noble family Holszański in the early 17th century and destroyed in 1704 in the Great Northern War.
