Halyk Bank

The Halyk Bank ( Kazakh Қазақстан Халық Жинақ Банкі ) is one of the largest banks in Kazakhstan. It is headquartered in the former capital Almaty. The Halyk Bank has subsidiaries in Russia, Georgia and Kyrgyzstan.

Predecessor companies, the bank already existed since 1923., The bank was formed after independence of Kazakhstan from the Soviet Union in its present form. In 1995 it was the largest bank in Kazakhstan and in the possession of the state. Three years later it was reorganized into a joint stock company. Since then the company listed on the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange represented. At present, the Kazakh government still holds 33.3 percent of the shares.

The bank is working closely with the American credit card company VISA.
