With the name Halysites, also called chain coral, the representatives of a fossil species of coral are called. This species is only found in the lower Paleozoic sediments in the Ordovician and Silurian of Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and North America.

Features

It is very characteristic -looking corals, which are easily recognizable at Tufts form of their colonies. Koralliten each have an elongated shape with a cylindrical or oval cross section and are separated by Mikrokoralliten. The Koralliten themselves are usually arranged in short rows, which then evolve as in a net. There are mostly single-row chains, rarely two or three rows found.

Statigraphische and geographical distribution

This genus is in the sediments of the Paleozoic from the Middle Ordovician to find (before about 470 million years ago) and in the Silurian. On the continents South America and Antarctica, there have been no finds. This taboo deferred corals died out before the end of the Silurian 416 million years.
