Hammer bridge is part of the municipality Muldenhammer in the Saxon Vogtland.

Geography

Hammer Bridge is located on the upper reaches of the river Mulde at the edge of the western Erzgebirge right between the blades valley in the south and Auerbach / Vogtl. in the north and is surrounded on all sides by pine forests.

Adjacent communities include the cities of Auerbach and Falkenstein, Green Brook and the district Tannenbergsthal in Vogtland.

History

The village was founded around the year 1600, an iron hammer, and towards the end of the 18th century a glassworks and a silver mine joined added.

Traffic

The railway Chemnitz- Aue- Adorf ( CA line), which performs Hammer Bridge, was opened in 1875. With the construction of the dam Eibenstock this route was interrupted and the continuous traffic on 27 September 1975. In the remaining section Muldenberg - Schonheide South ( Wilzschhaus ) Schonheide east of CA- line passenger services were set in sections between 1979 and 1982, freight traffic was operated until 1996. After removal of a shunt connection in Muldenberg the late 1990s the route is no longer connected to the rest of the DB network and is virtually an island route. Since 2008, a development association operates a tourist and excursion traffic with a railcar between Schonheide South and hammer bridge.
