HaMoked

Or HaMoked Center for the Defence of the Individual is an organization that was founded in 1988 to support Palestinians who fall in the Israeli -occupied territories in conflict with the Israel Police. In addition, the organization claims to be working on the development of standards and the importance of international human rights and humanitarian law.

The founder Dr. Lotte salt Berger began during the first intifada with a hotline for Palestinian victims of violence. The activities were gradually extended. The organization contacted authorities, carries out processes and delivers petitions to the Israeli High Court of Justice. She tries to move the legislature to amend law to improve the status of human rights in the occupied territories. HaMoked employs 30 Jewish and Palestinian people and worked since the founding 55,000 complaints. Since 2002 ( Operation Defensive Shield), the number of cases has increased fivefold (Annual Report 2004).

One of the employees of HaMoked is Daniel Shenhar, an Israeli human rights lawyer. It represents the rights of Palestinians in administrative detention and treated allegations of torture. According to Shenhar, only five per cent of appeals against decisions of the military courts success. HaMoked was one of 10 human rights organizations, which has co-signed a letter to Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak in March 2010.
