Hanayo
Hanayo Nakajima (Japanese中 岛 花 代, Nakajima Hanayo; * 1970 in the prefecture of Tokyo ) is a Japanese artist, photographer and musician.
Life
Hanayo grew up in a Western-oriented family. End of the 1980s she broke off her studies to be trained geisha, whose traditional art fascinated. In addition to her training, she founded together with the Japanoise musicians Masami Akita ( Merzbow ) and Masaya Nakahara (Violent Onsen Geisha ), the band Muscats.
In December 1992 Hanayo was pictured on the cover of the travel magazine Merian as " demure " Geisha. This was followed by a cover story after the bubble / Japan in the British fashion magazine The Face, which made her suddenly known to a wider audience. Subsequently, she worked as a model for photo shoots and fashion shows, including for Jean Paul Gaultier.
The mid-1990s, she moved to Germany, where they turned more to the world of art and music. So she joined in 1997 with Christoph Schlingensief's Theatre Action My Felt, My Fat, My Hare - 48-hour survival for Germany at the documenta X as Yoko Ono. Then she looked also at the Schlingensief projects Passion Impossible - 7 days for emergency Germany and The Last Days of Rosa Luxembourg with.
In addition to various solo record releases she also appeared as the lead singer of the band Vapid Dolly, a follow-up project of Daisy Chainsaw. 1999 was a collaboration of Hanayo with the drum -and- bass producer Panacea Album Hanayo In Panacea. In addition Hanayo played in the same year together with Dirk Dresselhaus (Schneider TM) and Christopher Uhe and later Vredeber Albrecht in the band Paincake few concerts in Germany and France. Stylistically, the band experimented at the interface between noise and performance.
In 2000 he recorded with poison a second album, which was created with the support of musicians such as Terre Thaemlitz, Schorsch Kamerun, Justus Köhncke, Kai Althoff, Curd Duca, Patric Catani, Merzbow or Rocko Schamoni. Her biggest hit was Hanayo with the initially hidden on this album as Joe le taxi hidden track. The Jürgen Paape co-produced techno cover version of the 1987 Vanessa Paradis single reached in 2002 as a single release in France for a short time, the Top 100 charts, and was founded in 2003 by the use in the critically acclaimed 2manydjs mix album As Heard on Radio Soulwax Pt. 2 also known internationally.
In 2009 she founded with Marcel Türkowsky, Christopher Kline, Dominik Noé and Jan Pfeiffer, the noise- rock project Wooden Veil, whose debut album was released in the same year on the label Dekorder.
As a guest singer, she has worked with artists as diverse as The Golden Lemons, Egoexpress, Stilluppsteypa, together with Andreas Ammer Console Christoph de Babalon or.
In solo shows, she presented her photographs as well as various video and installation art objects. Hanayos photographs have appeared in several volumes. In addition, it acts as a performance artist, among other things Hanazac ( with Isaac Bigsby Trogdon, 2006) and ponpons ( with Matan Zamir, Nicola Mascia, 2007).
Hanayo lives with her daughter alternately in Tokyo, London and Berlin.
