Active reactors ( gross ):

The nuclear power plant Hanbit ( up to 2013 nuclear power plant Yonggwang called, pronounced [ jɔŋɡwaŋ ] ) is a nuclear power plant with six reactor units. It lies on the west coast of South Korea on the Yellow Sea, in the extreme northwest of the province of Jeollanam -do.

In Hanbit 1 and 2 are pressurized water reactors with a capacity of 900 MW, which were supplied by Westinghouse. The two blocks were built along with Hanul 1 and 2 and Gori 3 and 4 in the second phase of the Korean nuclear program. While in phase 1 still turnkey power plants, so here Korean manufacturer came in great measure to the course. 1994 could Hanbit 1 report record earnings of 103.02 % capacity.

In Hanbit 3 and 4 is 950 MW pressurized water reactors of type CE system 80 are the prototypes for the "Korean Standard Nuclear Power Plant" and form the Phase 3 of the Korean nuclear program. In this case, all components are manufactured in Korea. Hanbit 3 was on 13 October 1994 and for the first time critically tied to the October 30 1994 grid. Hanbit 4 was on 7 July 1995 and critically tied to the July 18, 1995 to the network.

Hanbit 5 and 6 are 1000 MW pressurized water reactors in the "Korean Standard Nuclear Power Plant " design. The planned costs were four billion dollars. Hanbit 5 was on 24 November 2001 for the first time critical and connected on 19 December 2001 for the first time to the grid. Hanbit 6 was on 1 September 2002 critical and connected on 16 September 2002 to the network. To use the development system of the system is 80 80 units 3 and 4

Incident

During routine analysis in the reactor 5 on December 27, 2003, a leak was discovered. The reactor had to stay off until April 2004.

2012

3 reactor was shut down on October 18 for the annual inspection ( re-opening was scheduled for November 24 ); there were cracks in six 'control rod tunnels ' found.

Economy Minister Hong Suk -woo told in November 2012 in Seoul, two nuclear reactors at NPP Hanbit be due to missing: been shut down (better fake ) certificates. You could remain off until the beginning of 2013. Strict security controls for the two reactors are required. It was inevitable that Korea will experience an unprecedented power shortage in the winter. The power grid is South Korea's chronically congested at peak times. These are the reactors 5 & 6
