Händel-Gesellschaft

In Germany there are three Handel companies to take care of the work of the composer Georg Friedrich Händel. The companies are in close relation to the corresponding Handel Festival.

Göttingen

The International Handel Festival Göttingen developed from the rediscovery of Handel operas, which began in 1920 in Göttingen with the German premiere of the opera Rodelinde and led to a new employment with musical and dramatic works of Handel, both in Göttingen and in other cities in Germany.

In the following years, other operas were performed - Otto and Theophano ( 1921), Julius Caesar (1922 ), Xerxes (1923 ), Ezio (1924 ) -, was an expansion to other musical genres in Handel's oeuvre as well as other composers to 1927. On 12 March 1931, the Göttingen Handel Gesellschaft eV was founded with the objective of preserving the works of Handel and hosting of the Festival by the judge Walter Meyerhoff.

Hall

Handel's works have been performed regularly in his native city hall since the beginning of the 19th century. Following the renaissance of Göttingen operas Handel's operas were performed at the beginning of the 1920s also. Since 1952, the Handel Festival in Halle ( Saale) are organized in Handel's native town annually. In 1955, the Halle Georg -Friedrich -Händel -Gesellschaft was (International Association, seat hall ) in order to support the Festival and " to explore all sides and to promote " the work of Handel. Karlsruhe

The Handel Society Karlsruhe eV since its founding on October 9, 1989 supports the Handel Festival Karlsruhe and the International Handel Academy. The Chairman is Peter Overbeck. The Handel Society has awarded the annual Handel Youth Award in three categories.
