Handleyomys

Handleyomys is a living in Colombia rodent genus of the group of the New world.

The genus was erected in 2002 and includes two species, which were previously classified in other genera, but were always there as problematic:

  • Handleyomys fuscatus, which was incorporated earlier in the Andes mice ( Aepeomys ), and
  • Handleyomys intectus, a former member of the rice rats ( Oryzomys ).

There are dark-colored animals whose top black brown and bottom is colored dark gray. Both inhabit the Andes, they live in the mountains in Colombia and are up to 2800 meters high spread. Otherwise, little is known about the lifestyle.

Both species are not endangered according to IUCN.
