Hangzhou Bay (Hangzhou Wan )

The Hangzhou Bay, or the Bay of Hangzhou (Chinese: Hangzhou Wan ) lies at the mouth of the Qiantang Jiang in the East China Sea between the northeastern of Zhejiang province and the southeastern part of the centrally-administered city of Shanghai.

The eponymous city of Hangzhou is located at its western end. To the east of the bay are the many small islands of the Zhoushan archipelago to find.

The bay is known for its tidal bore, which occurs where up to eight meters high and with a speed of up to 30 km / hr.

The bay has recently been spanned by the big bridge Hangzhou Wan Daqiao, which opened on 1 May 2008. It is officially 35.673 km in length, the world's second longest bridge leading over open sea.
