Hannes Paul Schmid

Hannes Paul Schmid ( born November 19, 1980 in Bruneck ) is an Italian former Alpine skier and comes from Terenten in Val Pusteria. The South Tyrolean came ( almost) exclusively in his special slalom discipline.

Career

On 26 December 1995, the Val Pusteria started his international skiing career in Abtenau in Salzburg in a FIS race in the giant slalom, but did not reach the goal. On 21 March 2001 the South Tyrolean Italian champion in slalom in Ponte di Legno was. In the same year Schmid celebrated his World Cup debut on 25 November 2001 in Aspen, Colorado in the slalom, but where he had to retire in the first run. His first World Cup points took the man from Terenten finally in season 2002/2003 on 16 December 2002 in Sestriere in Piedmont in a knockout slalom course with 28 in the same season Schmid also denied the 37th Alpine Ski World 2003 in St. Moritz and reached the slalom on February 16, 2003 not the goal.

In subsequent seasons the Pusterer took over again for World Cup points. In the 2003/2004 season Schmid achieved his best World Cup result with the 95th place. In the same season he finished on 19 November 2003 in alpine Nor- Am Cup in Winter Park, Colorado the 8th place in the slalom and came in the overall standings to 91

On January 24, 2006 Schmid scored in Schladming in Styria his best World Cup result and drove in the night slalom for the first and only time of the "Top Ten" in a World Cup race. After this season he did not reach World Cup points more. In the same season, he still started at the XX. 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, where he finished in 39th place in the slalom in Sestriere, on 25 February 2006.

Hannes Schmid Paul ended his career as a ski racer in 2008, after he had retired at the Italian Championship in Bardonecchia on 30 March 2008 in his last slalom first run.
