The Hannover Messe / Laatzen station is a category 4 station in Laatzen close to Hannover Fairground. In regular traffic being served exclusively by train and S -Bahn Hannover. For major events such as CeBIT here keep all else passing trains of the local and long distance traffic. The train station in old Laatzen District replaced in 2000 the old exhibition train station, which was on a branch line on the exhibition site. Operationally, it is part of the Hanover - Wülfel station.

History

The station was newly built for the World Exhibition Expo 2000. It replaced the located at this location breakpoint Laatzen, which was built during the construction of the high-speed line in 1977 and had in turn replaced the former suburban station Hannover- Wülfel.

For the fair market until 1998, the head station Hannover Messe had been used on the exhibition site, which was in 1988 again expanded consuming.

For the new station a Europe-wide design competition was announced with town-planning ideas competition.

The new station was officially opened on 22 March 2000. The first of two phases was already gone into operation in spring 1998, after the construction work had been recorded in 1996. A total of 200 million euros were invested, installed 30 new turnouts as well as 61 additional signals. As part of the Expo 2000 were expected to 133,000 travelers per day in 300 and 250 travel S-Bahn trains.

The station hall spans the tracks by means of a 60 m long and 36 m wide concrete bridge and spans over the entire length with a roof structure made of curved steel trusses. Access to the passage platforms is via a simultaneously serving as a platform roof bridge construction (finger), which opens up the platform with multiple outlets.

The Fair station has two 420 m long and 9 m wide remote platforms on four running lines and a 210 m long head platform with two tracks for the years ending here S -Bahn trains. Two other transit tracks of high-speed line Hannover -Würzburg run the midst of the old route.

During the EXPO 2000 was located northeast of the station to existing tracks a temporary Terminal B, on the platform of trains and ended up in the north and east and began. The additions were dismantled after the Expo.

As a rule of Hanover Train traffic in December 2008 serves Fair / Laatzen as S -Bahn station of the hourly free S -Bahn line 4 Hildesheim Sarstedt Hannover Messe / Laatzen -Hannover- Langenhagen Bennemühlen. Previously perverted hourly regional train the relation Hannover -Hildesheim and every two hours a metronome relation Uelzen, Hanover and Göttingen.

Compounds in fair traffic

During major trade fairs like Agritechnica, CeBIT and Hannover Messe train station also serves as a long-distance train station to allow direct access to the grounds. For example, held during CeBIT 2010 daily for up to 72 ICE and IC trains 15 and the other by moving regional train lines R11 (Regional Express) and R 12 ( metronome ). The S -Bahn line 4 in the direction Bennemühlen is sometimes reinforced with large fairs at a 30 -minute intervals. The S -Bahn line 8 runs only on such occasions, and indeed as a transfer-free connection via the Central Station to the Hannover airport. This demand line of the S -Bahn Hannover was always the highest of the line number during the development of the line network (initially S5, then S6, S8 today ).

Transport links

The 340 m from the railway station and exhibition grounds can be bridged with the Skywalk. This is a supported double tube, allow the two parallel walkways and two -way rapid and all-weather pedestrian connection.

A stop for the tram lines 1 and 2 is located about 200 meters away at the Hildesheimer Straße. Beside the railway station is a stop for the bus lines 340 and 341, but the only run hourly.
