The Hanöbukten (Swedish Hanöbukten ) is longer a bay on the Baltic Sea coast of the Swedish provinces of Skåne County and Blekinge. The name comes from the small island Hanöbukten Hanö, located in the sea off the peninsula Listerlandet.

The bay extends from Listerlandet in the north to Stenshuvud and the island of Bornholm in the south; the most important port cities on the Hanöbukten are Sölvesborg, Åhus and Kivik. Along the Hanöbukten extends from Aahus to Julleboda in the south about a 20 km long dune landscape with a long sandy beach, which is well suited for swimming. The region on the Bay is therefore inundated with tourists. In east or south wind, the water is colder, because cold currents from the deep are driven upward.

In the Hanöbukten rivers flow Helge å, Skräbeån, Julebodaån and Verkaån. The greatest depth of the Hanöbukten is over 60 meters. The salinity (salt content ) is about 7.5 to 13 parts per thousand in shallower in deeper water.

Fishing shall concentrate on herring and cod. A particularly important role is played by the eel, which is often smoked right on the coast. The east coast of Skåne, especially the one along the Hanöbukten with its center Aahus, is therefore also called Eel Coast ( Ålakusten ).
