Hanover is a small town in the south of South Africa in the Northern Cape. The city is named after the German city of Hanover and had 2011 4.594 inhabitants. Main source of income are the Merino sheep.

History

On July 17, 1854, six men bought the farm Petrusvallei for 33,333 Rixdollars. From the farm became a city; first mayor was P. Water Mayer, who held the office until 1888. In 1859, the city limits were established and the first church was built.
