Hans-Günter Bruns

Hans -Günter Bruns ( * November 15, 1954 in Mülheim an der Ruhr ) is a former German football player and current football coach. He spent most of his playing career at Borussia Moenchengladbach with which he in 1979 the UEFA Cup, the European hitherto last title in club history, won.

Career

Bruns first reported to the age of 11 in a football club in his hometown at time when he played for many years only football in the street. At age 17 he moved to Schalke 04

In the Bundesliga, he was active from 1973 to 1990 for FC Schalke 04, the SG Wattenscheid 09, Fortuna Dusseldorf and Borussia Mönchengladbach. In his first years as a pro, he played in the midfield, especially later in the Libero position. In 1979 he was in the squad of the team of Borussia Mönchengladbach, the UEFA Cup Winners was and scored on the way to the finals against Red Star Belgrade, where he did not participate, each a goal against Benfica and Manchester City. In 1980, he was with Fortuna Dusseldorf DFB Cup winner, 1984, he was defeated with Borussia Mönchengladbach in the finals of the same competition Bayern Munich on penalties.

For the German national team, he played four times in 1984 and was in the squad for the 1984 European Championship in France.

Bruns is responsible for one of the most famous woodwork in Bundesliga history. In the 1983/84 season he sprinted in Munich in the game against Bayern with a solo run past the opponent's back line over the entire board. His shot bounced off the left inside of the post, the ball rolled off the line to the right post and jumped from there back to the field where the Munich defense could then be clarified.

After his retirement from professional football Bruns worked as an insurance agent. He also coached Adler Osterfeld in the Oberliga Nordrhein, later VfB Speldorf in his home town of Mülheim and the SSVg Velbert. From 2006 he was manager of Rot-Weiss Oberhausen and led the club in 2007 as Master of the Oberliga Nordrhein back into the regional league and in the follow-up the 2008 season in the 2nd Bundesliga. In the season 2008/ 09 he moved with Rot-Weiß Oberhausen on the position of Athletic conductor and thus exchanged with Jürgen Luginger the tasks. After Luginger presented due to a persistent negative series on 1 February 2010 his post available, Bruns stepped in as interim coach. However, it was announced that he will keep both offices permanently in the season 2010/11 On April 22, 2010. On 22 February 2011 it was decided after the 1-3 against VfL Osnabrück and due to disagreements within the association, to separate. Hans Günter Bruns was a day later replaced by Theo Schneider.

On September 22, 2011 Bruns was introduced as the new coach of third division Wuppertal SV Borussia. He went there to the succession of Karsten Hutwelker, of which the club had separated three days earlier. In November 2012 Bruns was relieved of his duties in Wuppertal again. After a half year break he took over in April 2013 as coach at the SSVg Velbert, but these had to give up already in November 2013 due to the decline of the sport club again.
