Hans Rupprecht Goette

Hans Rupprecht Goette (* 1956 in Soest ) is a German classical archaeologist.

Hans Rupprecht Goette studied 1975-1982 Classical Archaeology, Latin philology and history at the universities of Cologne, Bonn, Munich and Göttingen. 1980/81 he stayed as a DAAD scholarship to study in Rome. In 1982 he completed his studies in Göttingen with a Master degree. This was followed up in 1995 teaching in Göttingen, also there, receiving a doctorate in 1984 with the dissertation studies on Roman Togadarstellungen. After that, he was Assistant Professor in Göttingen, but resigned in 1985, the travel grant to, with which he could tour the Mediterranean until 1986. 1986 Goette General Secretary at the German Archaeological Institute in Athens, 1992 Speaker for Historical Geography and Director of the Photo Archives was there. In 1994 he took teaching positions at the University of Marburg and at the Christian -Albrechts -University of Kiel. Goette habilitated in 1997 at the Justus -Liebig- University of Giessen with a thesis on Ho axiologos demos Sunion = Landeskundliche studies in Southeast Attica and then became private in Giessen. In 2002 he moved as a lecturer for the library and the editorial staff at the headquarters of the German Archaeological Institute (DAI ) to Berlin. In casting addition, he became as adjunct professor in 2004.

In Athens Goette organized in 1994 an international conference on HG Lolling and the Greek language, culture and epigraphy with 1998 Ancient Roads in Greece and 2002 Ludwig Ross in Greece from 1832 to 1846. He was also a co-organizer of the exhibition The transformation of archaeological monuments in historical and contemporary photographs, which was shown between 1995 and 1997 in Zurich, Heidelberg, Hannover and Münster. Lectures and conference participations led him to Austria, Switzerland, Greece, Great Britain and the United States. He is a corresponding member of the DAI. Goette research focuses on the topography and settlement archeology of Greece, especially in Attica and on Aegina and Euboea, the ancient architecture, the ancient sculpture, especially the Roman portrait sculpture, for the Material Culture and the marble used in ancient times.
