Hans-Ulrich Brunner

Hans -Ulrich Brunner ( born July 29, 1943 in Winterthur, † 25 September 2006 in Berlin) was a Swiss painter residing in Berlin.

Life

Hans -Ulrich Brunner grew up in Switzerland in Bern. After graduation (1964 ) he studied anthropology and art history at the University of Bern and painting at the School of Applied Arts Bern. Starting in 1968, studied at the La Grande Chaumiere, Paris, then painting in Madrid. From 1969 to 1975 he studied at the University of the Arts Berlin. 1974 he was appointed master student of Hermann Bachmann. From 1979 to 1985 he pursued a teaching position at the University of Arts Berlin. Study tours have taken him to France, Italy, Spain, Greece and Tunisia. He lived and worked as a freelance artist in Berlin. Hans -Ulrich Brunner died on 25 September 2006 in Berlin in an accident.

Works

Initially worked Hans -Ulrich Brunner purely figurative representational. In the environment of that time ( early 70s ) given study of new objectivity, New Objectivity he sought and found new approaches for his painting beyond pop art and photorealism. Although Hans Brunner never solved entirely from the subject, he made it very soon, his creative means to use largely free and uninhibited and picturesque deal with them. His painting is done mainly from the head, without proof, without a model. This secures him a spontaneous act of painting, the ever the medium can occur painting in the foreground. Stylistically, he is unattached and easily categorized nowhere.

His painting materials is the egg tempera in conjunction with thin layers in oil. So he creates a wide range of picturesque massive juxtaposed surfaces in Prima technology to thinnest glazes.

This is reflected in an outstanding way in his first major, major cycle, his bullfighting series Ronda I -XV from 1981 to 1983, but also in his pairs I -VII (1986), the toro solo series from 1995/96 and in four seasons (1986 /87).

It resulted in several cycles of pictures: 1972-1976: jack of all trades, Brunner monumentalstes plant and other large -scale works with groups of figures, mostly people from the close circle of friends: Hansi Sprenger, Broderick Price, Peter Herbrich.

The very important for Hans Brunner cycle begins with Ronda Ronda I (1981 ) and ends with Ronda VIII ( 1983). In 1987 created one last, Ronda XIII.
