Hans W. Geißendörfer

Hans Wilhelm Geißendörfer ( born April 6, 1941 in Augsburg as Wilhelm Max Geißendörfer ) is a German film director, writer and film producer.

Life

From 1962 to 1967 Geißendörfer studied German literature, theater, psychology and African languages. In 1971 he founded with other auteurs of the New German Cinema, the film published by the authors. His film The glass cell in 1979 was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

In 1982, Geißendörfer his own production company, the Geißendörfer film and television production GmbH, short gff GmbH. They produced since 1985 in collaboration with the WDR, the first German definitives Linde Street, in the Geißendörfer at times also directed. He was inspired by his childhood in an apartment building in Dietersheim this series. In 2011 he was one of the founders of video-on- demand portal alleskino.de, which aims to show all German cinema productions.

In public Geißendörfer always wears a small, dark wool cap - similar to a dump - on the back of the head. According to his own testimony, he was advised in his childhood by doctors after a heavy Nebenhöhlenkatarrh to always wear a hat, to the current cap inspired him the film One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, in the lead actor Jack Nicholson wearing a similar model.
