The Private Hanseatic University ( PHU ) in Rostock -Warnemünde was a private, independent university in Germany. It was closed in March 2009 due to lack of profitability after the teaching had been discontinued in October 2008. She had a total of five, last only three students.

History

The management consultant Peter L. Pedersen and Knut Einfeldt in 2002 involved the Business Plan Competition of the Federal State of Mecklenburg -Western Pomerania with the project to operate a university in private ownership and used it the first and third place. 2004 was the location decision for future private university in Rostock. In September 2004 the establishment of the Private University Hanse GmbH & Co KGaA and the entry in the commercial register of Rostock.

In spring 2007, the Hamburg investment company Educationtrend AG acquired 97.8 percent stake in the Hanseatic University and at the same time increased the share capital. Educationtrend owned 100 percent of the Aton GmbH, Fulda.

State recognition was made on 24 July 2007 by the Ministry of Education of the State of Mecklenburg- Vorpommern subject (ie, with conditions). Founding president was Wolf Schäfer, formerly Vice - President of the Helmut - Schmidt- University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg.

Co-founder Peter L. Pedersen presented March 31, 2008 down from his position as chief executive after the main shareholder, the goals of the university changed to the detriment of the survival of the university.

The Hanseatic University Rostock could not attract sufficient students due to the changed requirements of the majority shareholder also in the winter semester 2008/2009. In February 2009 it was announced that the university would be closed in March 2009.

Study

The trial operation started on 22 October 2007 with four students in the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences. The teaching that only lasted two semesters and was hired for the winter semester 2008 for lack of students. Research

The PHU should also get the right to award doctorates once the preconditions, but this did not happen. In addition to the university's own research, the PHU wanted to work closely with research and development- oriented companies. Even so-called affiliated institutes were planned.
