Hansen, Schou & Weller

Hansen, Schou & Weller was the name of a photo - studio in Copenhagen. In the last decades of the 19th century there were portraits of many celebrities.

History

The portrait painter Niels Christian Hansen, his brother Georg Emil Hansen and the lieutenant and businessman Albert Schou founded the studio on December 1, 1867. In. It was called Hansen & Schou. A native of Germany Clemens Weller became her business partner on September 30, 1869 but was already active as a photographer. Originally a bookbinder, he had learned the craft from photographer Georg Emil Hansen.

On April 14, 1869 Hansen, Schou & Weller royal purveyor. In 1872 the company participated in the Nordic industrial and art exhibition in Copenhagen. In later years, the studio was only Hansen & Weller. By 1885, the studio had his address in the Østergade 15, after which it moved to the former Berkentinsche Palace ( Palais mold man), Bredgade 28 Clemens Weller was eventually sole owner. He photographed mainly aristocrats and celebrities. After his death he left approximately 360,000 carefully packaged photo plates.

Many of the portraits are now in the Danish Royal Library in Copenhagen, more in the Archives ETH Zurich, in the Royal Collection and the National Portrait Gallery in London.
