Hansjörg Walter

Hansjörg Walter ( born February 5, 1951 in Frauenfeld ) is a Swiss politician ( SVP) and was from 2000 to 2012 president of the Swiss Farmers' Association.

Hansjörg Walter graduated from the Agricultural School Strickhof in the Canton of Zurich and made various developments in agriculture and in the commercial sector. Since 1983 he is a master farmer and took over in 1985 from his parents the " Greuthof » in Wängi. He is married and has three grown children.

Policy

His political career started in 1985 as vice president of the elementary school Wängi, which he chaired from 1993 to 2000. From 1995 to 2002 he was a councilor in Wängi, and he was elected to the Grand Council in 1992. The Swiss Parliament elections of 1999 he was elected to the National Council and resigned as Kantonsrat. In the parliamentary elections in 2003, 2007 and 2011 he was re-elected each with the second most votes in the Thurgau SVP list.

In December 2008, Hansjörg Walter has been ported to the Federal election as a candidate explosive. He was defeated in the third ballot with only one voice the official SVP candidate Ueli Maurer. Due to the pressure fraction of his party said Walter before the first ballot, he would reject a possible choice. On December 5, 2011 Walter was elected National President of the Parliament of 2011 /2012. His successor in Parliament year 2012/2013 was Maya Graf ( GPS), which is also a farmer.

As a result of the withdrawal of candidature Bruno Zuppigers for a seat in the Federal Council, Walter was nominated by the SVP as a candidate for the Federal elections of 14 December 2011. After Walter was unsuccessful in the ballot against the current Federal Councillor Eveline Widmer -Schlumpf, he did not start in the following rounds.

From 2000 to 2012 Walter was president of the Swiss Farmers' Association. He was succeeded by Markus Ritter.
