Hap Sharp

James " Hap " Sharp ( born January 1, 1928 in Tulsa, † May 7, 1993 ) was an American race car driver.

Hap Sharp was a close friend of Jim Hall and his Chaparral strongly associated with project. For Hall Sharp drove into the USRRC sports car series and was fifth in the 1964 championship. With Roger Penske as a team partner, he was victorious in the same year at the Nassau Trophy. In 1965 it went into the championship upwards, and at the end of the season, Sharp was allowed to enjoy the third overall. Highlight of the year was the overall win at the 12 Hours of Sebring with Jim Hall. These six more victories came including the new success to Nassau.

Sharp tried again and again in Formula 1 Six times he was in the highest single-seater class at the start. He made his debut at the Grand Prix of the United States in 1961, a World Championship point closest he came at the 1963 Grand Prix of Mexico when he received a Lotus 24 of Reg Parnell Racing to seventh place controlled.

After his resignation, it was closed to the Americans. Through the U.S. motorsports world, therefore, was a shock when in 1993 his suicide was known. This was triggered by the previous diagnosis of cancer.
