Hapshash and the Coloured Coat

Hapshash and the Coloured Coat called the illustrator Michael English (1943-2009) and the designer Nigel Waymouth ( b. 1941 ) emerged their cooperation in the second half of the 1960s, from the pioneering psychedelic posters and two music albums.

History

In December 1966, English and Waymouth by Joe Boyd and John " Hoppy " Hopkins, the operators of the UFO clubs commissioned to make promotional poster for the new club. At this time, English has worked for the underground magazine International Times, and Waymouth was co-owner of the trendy boutique Granny Takes a Trip ( GTT ), where the hip "Swinging London " clothed.

First, they worked together under the name "Cosmic Colors ", then as " Jacob and the Coloured Coat", from March 1967, as " Hapshash and the Coloured Coat". The project broke up towards the end of the decade.

Poster

In addition to the work for the UFO Club, they designed posters for the magazine Oz, the Middle Earth Club, Pink Floyd, The 5th Dimension, The Move, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Soft Machine, The Incredible String Band and others.

The screen prints were very popular and were sold in the popular boutiques, for example, in the Carnaby Street. Even today achieve the original prints in price and are exhibited in museums (many in the Victoria and Albert Museum ).

Music

Hapshash and the Coloured Coat released two psychedelic albums, Featuring the Human Host and the Heavy Metal Kids (1967) and Nigel Waymouth, together with Mike Batt and Tony McPhee Western Flier (1969). The former is said to have influenced, among other things, Amon Düül and the Rolling Stones, the latter emerged during the resolution phase of Hapshash and the Coloured Coat.
