Harald Mothes

Harald Mothes ( born November 28, 1956) is a former German football player.

Harald Mothes came in the summer of 1972 by the youth department of the BSG Motor Loessnitz to bismuth Aue to neighboring Lößnitztal. In the youth teams, he was employed as an attacking midfielder and a striker and was playing intelligent and goal threat even at this time.

In the spring and summer of 1975, bismuth Aue had to replace some key players in the longer term. So rendered from May Konrad Schaller and Lothar Schmiedel their reserve duty in the army and fell from half a year. Dietmar Pohl, who was also destined for the army service, was injured in his last game on May 3, 1975 against FC Carl Zeiss Jena so heavy that he had to quit his later career. Moreover, since the long-standing regulars Ernst Einsiedel and Manfred Weikert ended their football career and there were no new entries from other teams, the team had a great bloodletting.

So had to coach Bringfried Müller forced the squad with players from the junior level complement. Except Harald Mothes still pushed the goalkeeper Jörg talent Weißflog for 1st team. On August 27, 1975 Mothes came off the bench in the 1-1 draw in Riesa for the first time. His first Oberligator he scored on October 9, 1976 home game against HFC Chemistry ( 1:1). The big breakthrough he had not yet managed to go though.

From November 1976 to April 1978 he had to leave the team in order to complete his army service. During this time he played in forward Plauen. From May 1978 he was a bismuth Aue available again. Coach of the team was now Manfred Fuchs. From this time Harald Mothes developed more and more into one of the best and most prolific players.

With its strong performance Harald Mothes also made GDR national team coach Bernd Stange attention. And the GDR sports leadership finally opened for SPAs player the doors to choose from. On March 28, 1984 in Erfurt Mothes played against Czechoslovakia (2-1) his first and only international match in which he was but a substitute in the 60th minute only. He was so since Manfred Kaiser 1964, the first Auer, who again played an international match. In the very next match against Mexico team-mate Jörg Weißflog celebrated his international debut. A future in the national team had Mothes unlike Weißflog because the competition was not greater at his position.

For Harald Mothes was in the Olympic team of the GDR together with Jörg Weißflog a fixed size. He played a total of 29 matches and scored 3 goals. But then came the low blow. Despite a successful qualifying he was unable to attend in Los Angeles, as the GDR and other Eastern bloc countries canceled their participation in the Olympic Games.

At the end of his career he had to then witness how he descended with bismuth Aue after a mediocre season in 1989/90 in the East German league after years of successfully fighting against relegation and 1984 /85 and 1986/87 under coach Hans - Ulrich Thomale even qualified for the UEFA Cup. Nevertheless, Harald Mothes was one of the best players who has ever played in Aue and in his time one of the most prolific players in the GDR Oberliga. From 1975 to 1990 he played 303 league games and scored 88 goals.

After his time in Aue and the move to Bavaria, he played a few more years at TSV Ampfing, where he (Summer 2008) is responsible for the athletic development of the football department today. Once a week he gives his experience as a base coach of the junior DFB on. Main job is Harald Mothes archivist in a hospital.
