Harbel

Harbel is a small town in Margibi County in the West African Republic of Liberia, she had in the census ( 2008) 23.402 inhabitants and is located on the lower reaches of the Farmington River, about 15 kilometers from the Atlantic coast.

Harbel is located about 24 kilometers east of the capital Monrovia and is the center of the 1926 -founded the Firestone Tire & Rubber Company rubber plantation. The place name Harbel was derived from the first name of founder Harvey S. Firestone and his wife Isabelle. At the main town in the north is bordered Harbel built by the Americans working settlement Harbelville, located across the river the place Owen Grove. At the southern edge of the town is the site of the Roberts International Airport, the most modern airport in the country. At the Farmington River at "Mount Hydo " is the Firestone hydroelectric power plant to generate electricity. A scale of the Firestone plantation river port enables cost-effective transportation of the rubber in the near Freeport Monrovia. The city's main industry is the rubber industry. 1952 Institute of Tropical Medicine was founded in Harbel.
