Harju ( German Harjo ) is a village (Estonian küla ) in the rural community Pühalepa ( Pühalepa vald ). It is the second largest Estonian island of Hiiumaa ( German Dagö ).

The town was first mentioned in 1565. He now has 10 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011).

Worth seeing are the two historic windmills of the village. They were built in 1781 or 1892.

Famous people

The most famous son of the town is the popular Estonian children's book author Julius Öngo. He was born 1901 in Harju. Öngo 1941 was executed by the Soviet occupation authorities.
