Bassaricyon lasius is a way of belonging to the small bear Makibären the genus Bassaricyon.

Features

Bassaricyon lasius similar to the other Makibären, especially the bush -tailed Olingo, as its subspecies he is beisweilen treated. Main distinguishing feature is the longer and thicker coat that is blackish - gray on the top.

Dissemination and lifestyle

The species is known only from his Erstbeschreibungsort ( Terra typica ) near the source of the Rio Estrella in southern Cartago in Costa Rica. The site lies at an altitude of about 1,500 meters. It is believed that it is spread north of the capital San José in the Cordillera de Talamanca.

For the life of Bassaricyon lasius No data are likely to correspond to the other Makibären.

System

Bassaricyon lasius is recognized as a type assigned to the genus Makibären Bessaricyon, which currently consists of five types. Here there is currently no security on the actual number of species and in the past have been recognized by various scientists only two or only one type of Makibären. So Bassaricyon lasius is sometimes considered as subspecies of the bush -tailed Olingo.

The species is not classified as a hazard class by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN ) due to the limited data available (data deficient ) assessed. It is so far known only from the type locality in Costa Rica. She was the 1996 " threatened " to 2008 ( Endangered ) classified, further research on the taxonomy and life is required for classification.
