Harry Eagle

Harry Eagle ( * 1905 in New York City; † June 12, 1992 ) was an American physician. He has put together as a pathologist with Renato Dulbecco the basics of in vitro cultivation of living cells.

Even today, his culture media used in modern cell culture. The products developed by him nutrient media for cell culture are still (usually only in the abbreviation ) named after him, such as the MEM (minimal Eagle's medium ), EMEM ( Eagle's minimum essential medium ) or DMEM ( Dulbecco 's modified Eagle medium).

In the years 1964/1965 Harry Eagle was president of the American Association of Immunologists. He was honored in 1973 with the Louisa Gross Horwitz Prize, 1987 with the National Medal of Science.
