Harry Kewell

Harold "Harry" Kewell ( born September 22, 1978 in Smithfield, Sydney ) is an Australian football player. Since 2013 he is at Melbourne Heart under contract.

Association

Kewell, son of an Englishman and an Australian woman, went to the Westfields Sports High School, and began there the first time at the football games. At the age of 15 years, Harry Kewell got a contract with Leeds United, where he first went aground in a 0-1 home defeat by Middlesbrough FC on 30 March 1996. Kewell scored his first goal in October 1997 in a 3-1 win over Stoke City in the English League Cup. The sporting highlight at Leeds United was the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2001. The following year the club ran into financial difficulties and could just avoid relegation yet.

In 2003, Kewell finally changed for five million British pounds to Liverpool, where he was Champions League winners in 2005. For the 2008/2009 season moved to Turkish club Galatasaray, Kewell. Kewell was not only one of the favorite players of Galatasaray fans, but also his teammates and board members of Galatasaray guessed it, mainly due to his work ethic and personality.

His contract with Galatasaray ended on May 31, 2011 and was not renewed. In August 2011 he was engaged by Melbourne Victory. After one season he returned for family reasons back to England. He could not keep up, so his contract was dissolved already after one month on the part of the club its shape. For the 2013/14 season Kewell returned to the A-League and signed a contract with Melbourne Heart.

National

His debut in the Australian national team gave Kewell on 24 April 1996 in a 0-3 defeat against Chile in Antofagasta. In 2006, the Australian team managed to qualify again for a World Cup. At the finals in Germany Kewell belonged to the squad of Australia, where he came in all three group matches and Australia for use in the important 2-2 draw against Croatia scored one goal and ensured the qualifications of its team for the round of sixteen.
