Harry P. O'Neill

Harry Patrick O'Neill ( born February 10, 1889 in Dunmore, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, † June 24, 1953 in Scranton, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1949 and 1953 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Harry O'Neill dropped out of primary school at the age of ten years and worked in the slate quarrying. In the evenings, he trained as a hairdresser. At the age of 18 he was able to purchase the salon of his instructor and run it yourself. At the same time he was also active in the insurance industry. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party. Between 1929 and 1948 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania.

In the congressional elections of 1948, O'Neill was in the tenth electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of the Republican James P. Scoblick on January 3, 1949. After a re-election he was able to complete in Congress until January 3, 1953 two legislative sessions. These were shaped by the events of the Korean War. In 1952 he was not re-elected.

Harry O'Neill died only six months after the end of his last term on June 24, 1953 in Scranton, where he was also buried.
