Harry W. Gerstad

Harry W. Gerstad (actually Harry Donald Gerstad; * June 11, 1909, † 17 July 2002) was an award-winning American Cutter.

Life

Harry Donald Gerstad was the son of silent-film cameraman Harry W. Gerstad. In Hollywood, grew up he soon came into contact with the film industry. As a lab assistant, he worked for Hal Roach, Warner Bros. and RKO Pictures.

After the Second World War, he was an editor for RKO. The director Edward Dmytryk was about his mentor. In 1949 he was taken from Stanley Kramer to Columbia Pictures. There he worked as a cut - supervisor. For Kramer's production company, he also worked as an editor and won two Oscars in this function. Also for television productions, he worked as an editor and in some cases also as a director. In the 1960s he worked for Bing Crosby's production company, for 20th Century Fox and John Wayne's Batjac.

1973 Herry W. Gerstad retired from film and spent the rest of his life with his wife Jody in Palm Springs.
