HÃ¥rteigen

Hårteigen

The Hårteigen is a table mountain in the Hardangervidda in Norway. He is moh 1690. after the ridge Sandfloeggi ( 1719 moh. ) second highest mountain in the Hardangervidda. The name means something like Hårteigen Grey signposts ( Harr = gray, ascend = point ).

To the west of the Hardangervidda, the gray granite colossus rises with steep walls about 300 m above the surrounding plateau. His hat-shaped silhouette can be seen from far away well, which makes him as king of the Hardangervidda to the landmark of the area. From its summit there are views over large parts of Hardangervidda; to the north you can see the glacier Hardangerjøkulen well, in the west Folgefonna and southeast Gaustatoppen.

The mountain was first climbed on 18 August 1812 by Christian Smith, J. Fr Schouw and Nils Hertzberg. The increase is from the east side through a largely unmarked path. Can be reached only on foot along the Hårteigen various hiking trails. In the densest is the self-service DNT cabin Torehytten, a little further are the Hytten Tyssevassbu, Hadlaskard and Litlos.
