Hartmut Hegeler

Hartmut Hegeler ( born June 11, 1946 in Bremen ) is a German Protestant pastor and author. Hegeler is committed to the rehabilitation of the victims of the witch trials and operates to, among other things, a website about Anton Praetorius (see links).

Life

Hegeler graduated Ratsgymnasium Bielefeld and then studied theology at Bethel, Marburg and Heidelberg. After graduating, he went as vicar of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia in the Foreign Service to India. He then worked as a pastor of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia in Recklinghausen. From 1974 to 1976 was Hegeler of services overseas, a Working Group of the Evangelical Church in Germany, was sent as a project coordinator in the North Yemen.

From 1976 to 1982 Hegeler was parish priest in the parish Dortmund- Huckarde. He then worked as a circular church pastor in the Evangelical Church of the Unna district and taught Protestant religious education at Märkischen vocational college. Between 1999 and 2009 Hegeler was district commissioner for the Evangelical religious instruction at vocational schools in the church district of Unna. He also organized teacher training for teachers of religion at the Pedagogical Institute Villigst and Protestant parish of Unna. Since 2010 he is retired. Hegeler lives in Unna.

Work on the persecution of witches and rehabilitation of victims of the witch trials

Since 2000, Hegeler excited employed by questions from students on the topic witch trials and the possible rehabilitation of the victims who were secular courts (not by processes according to canon law ) condemned. In 2000 he founded the Working Group persecution of witches in Westphalia, who has renamed the working group witch trials of 2005.

As part of this working group Hegeler developed numerous activities: He lectures in colleges, community colleges, schools and churches, participates in exhibitions on witch hunts and about the life of Anton Praetorius and organized teacher training courses on the subject of witch hunts. These topics Hegeler has authored numerous publications and caused its activities received wide media coverage.

Several places have his suggestion for a honors the memory of Pastor Anton Praetorius, fighter against torture and persecution of witches seized.

On the Ecumenical Church in Berlin in 2003 and the Evangelical Church days in Hannover 2005, Cologne 2007, Dresden in 2011 and Hamburg in 2013 and to the Catholics days Osnabrück in 2008 and Mannheim 2012 Hegeler organized jointly with the Friedrich Spee Society Ratingen information stands.

On the second Ecumenical Church in Munich in 2010 Hegeler held with the Working Group witch trials a church service to commemorate the victims of the witch hunts.
