Hartmut Krüger

Hartmut Krüger ( born May 8, 1953 in Güsen ) is a former German handball player and handball coach.

Career

The 1.78 meter tall left winger played in the DDR - Oberliga for the SC Magdeburg and was with the club seven times GDR champion, twice won the European Champions Cup and 1981 European Championship for club teams.

In the East German national team, he was active intermittently from 1975 to 1986 and played a total of 157 games. Highlight of his career was the Olympic gold medal at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. He also reached third places at the World Championships in 1978 and 1986. Prior to the 1986 World Cup the then already 33 -year-old Kruger had already retired as a national player in fact. But after a preseason game in the national team defeated the SC Magdeburg and Kruger threw 12 goals in this game, he was still included in the World Cup squad. He played all the games and threw in the 3rd place match, which the GDR won 8 goals. After his playing career, he served as 1989-1993 coach of SC Magdeburg. In this role, he won the 1991 championship title. Hartmut Krüger is an honorary member of the SCM and was among the first members in the "Hall of Fame " of the SCM.

Kruger was in 1984 awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in gold. For the Olympic gold medal in Moscow in 1980, he received the medal in silver.

After Handball

After his release in 1993, Kruger retired from the Bundesliga Handball. He currently operates a crane trading company in Biederitz, is the sponsor of the SCM.
