Hartwell Railroad

The Hartwell Railroad (HRT ) is an American Short Line Railroad Company in Georgia. The company is headquartered Hartwell.

The company operates a 93 km long route network of Elberton by Toccoa with a branch to Hartwell.

The company was founded in 1878 to build a line from Hartwell after Bowersville. After a bankruptcy and reorganization, the company came in 1902 under the control of the Southern Railway. In 1905 the hitherto narrow gauge line was converted to standard gauge. 1924 was the sale of the Hartwell Railroad to local buyers. In 1990, Benny Ray Anderson, the shares in the company. In 1994, was acquired by the Norfolk Southern route between Elberton and Toccoa.
