Haruhiro Yamashita

Haruhiro Yamashita, Japanese山下 治 広, Yamashita Haruhiro, later Haruhiro Matsuda, (* November 15, 1938 in Uwajima ) is a former Japanese gymnast.

He won a gold medal in each horse jump and team -around competition at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo in 1964. In competition on pommel horse he finished fourth.

In the World Gymnastics Championships 1962 in Prague, he became world champion in team all-around and world vice- champion in the jump. Four years later at the World Gymnastics Championships 1966 in Dortmund, he won the horse jump and was again a member of the victorious Japanese team in the all around.

In the horse jump carries a forward by him in 1962 first proposed convicted jump, a handspring, under the name Yamashita jump his name. He took after his marriage to the family name of his wife, under which it is recorded in the annals of the world championship of 1966. In 2000, he was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame.
