Hasan Güngör

Hasan Güngör ( born July 5, 1934 in Acıpayam, Denizli; † 13 October 2011) was a Turkish wrestler. He was Olympic champion in 1960 and 1964 silver medalist at middleweight in free style.

Career

Hasan Güngör grew up in Denizli and thus began the struggle. He developed into a freestyle wrestler. His international career began with a third place at the World Championships in Istanbul in 1957 at middleweight. He defeated the Olympic champion of 1956 Nikola Stantschew from Bulgaria. Güngör 1958 won the World Cup in Sofia, which was held in place of a World Cup, before the entire world at that time elite.

In 1959 he stayed with the Turkish national team on a competition trip to the Federal Republic of Germany, and defeated it with Horst Hess, Johann Georg Utz Sterr and the former German class at middleweight.

At the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960, he became Olympic champion in the middleweight division. Because of the peculiarity of the former Regulations, he needed neither against the silver medalist Giorgi Schirtladse from the Soviet Union still to contend against the bronze medalist Hans Antonsson from Sweden.

From 1961 Güngör started at light heavyweight. He managed at the World Championships this year in Yokohama against the Olympic champion and multiple world champion Gholamreza Takhti from Iran a draw, but lost to the Soviet representative Boris Gurevich and came to 3rd place.

At the World Cup 1962 in Toledo Hasan became vice world champion. He wrestled it against the world champions this year Mansour Mehdizadeh from Iran undecided, defeating the previous champion Boris Gurevich on points.

At the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964 Güngür won among others against the Soviet representatives Shota Lomidse on points and senior draw against Prodan Gardschew from Bulgaria, who later became Olympic champion. However, a defeat against Mansour Mehdizadeh cost him the second Olympic victory.

1966 finally won Hasan when reimported after a long break European Championship in Karlsruhe at middleweight before the Czechs Josef Urban and Soviet wrestler Andrei Tschokvrebov and was at the World Championships in Toledo Vice World Champion behind Prodan Gardschew.

After two fourth places at the European Championships 1967 in Istanbul and the World Cup in New Delhi, he finished his career and worked for many years as a trainer in Turkey.
