Hasan Yousefi Eshkevari

Hassan Yussefi Eshkevari (* 1950 ) is a Shiite clerics with religious titles Hodjatoleslam, writer, philosopher and one of the most famous critics within the Iranian clergy.

Life

He studied theology under Ayatollah Hussein Ali Montazeri in Qom, is today one of the most important researchers of Iran Islam especially through his involvement in the creation of an encyclopedia of Islam. After Katajun Amirpur takes the stand in the tradition of Shariati Eshkevari, unlike Abdulkarim Soroush to agree on a democracy -oriented interpretation of the Koran about Islam with democracy.

Indictment and conviction

Eshkevari, head of Ali Shariati Documentation Centre, was asked for his participation in the Berlin Iran conference in March 2000, after his return before the Special Court for the Clergy ( Dadgahe Wijeye Rohaniat ) and in a secret trial, initially to death, and later to a several years of imprisonment.

The Special Court for the Clergy has been realized by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, not an invention, but only after the revolution leader Seyyed Alī Chāmene'īs. This unique, similar to the Inquisition court negotiated actions that are incompatible with the dignity of a clergyman. A clergyman, who, like Eshkevari advocating the separation of state and religion falls within the mandate of the Special Court.

Beginning of February 2005 Eshkevari was released from prison.
